I have been making medieval shoes, boots, pattens, and canteens since 1996. The shoes and boots can be made as turnshoes - a manufacturing method commonly used in the Middle Ages - or by using a modern manufacturing technique.
All of the leather uppers employed in the process are tanned with plant-based substances and are made from indigenous cowhide or goatskins, which helps to highlight the historical character of the shoes. The fasteners are made of brass and are custom-made for this purpose.
The shoe models are based on archaeological publications and on input from experimental archaeologists as well as from museums.
To order shoes, please print the shoe order form and take down the circumference measurements of your foot. The shoe order form as well as instructions on how to take foot measurements are provided in the Shoe Catalogue section of this website.
